Michelle M. Morkert, PhD is Professor of Women's and Gender Studies and a founder and coordinator of the Women's and Gender Studies Program at Concordia University - Chicago and the current Director of the Center for Policy and Social Justice.

Dr. Morkert was a Fulbright Scholar at University of Zadar in Croatia and is an active transnational scholar with research experience in Guatemala, Peru, and, most recently, in the Balkans. In addition to face to face and online course development, Professor Morkert's current research includes global analyses of gender studies in higher education; activism around gender, militarism, and human rights; and critical whiteness studies in U.S. perspectives.

Within the context of her undergraduate teaching, Dr. Morkert uses intersectional theory to investigate the ways that gender norms are influenced by and reinforced through popular culture.

The lecture inaugurates the project "Critical Thinking Skills and Media Literacy - Young Leaders for Safety and Justice", supported financially by U.S. Consulate General in Krakow.
